General Information

Mosquitoes are insects belonging to the order Diptera, the True Flies. Mosquito have two wings; mosquito wings have scales. Female mosquitoes’ mouthparts form a long piercing-sucking proboscis. Males differ from females by having feathery antennae and mouthparts are not suitable for piercing skin. Therefore, only female mosquito bites and feed themselves on blood. A male mosquito’s principal food is nectar or similar sugar source.

There are over more than 3000 different species of mosquitos.  Despite these differences, all mosquitoes share some common traits, such as a four-stage life cycle like egg, larva, pupa, adult. Mosquitos breed in soft moist soil, stagnant water, tires.

Threat to Human as a pest

When a mosquito bites, she injects an anticoagulating agent into the skin to prevent the blood from clotting, thereby allowing her to feed.  Mosquitos have tube-like mouthparts (called a proboscis) that can pierce the skin of a host and feed on blood, which contains protein and iron needed to produce eggs.

Mosquitos are important vector of disease. Mosquitos salvia is transferred to one host to other injecting various bacteria and pathogens from one host to other and carrying various disease including Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, West Nile. By transmitting disease mosquitos cause lakhs of human death every year.
